Townspeople, a San Diego Community Affordable Housing Developer, devoted to provide housing and supportive housing services for low-income people living with HIV/AIDS and other special needs, recently acquired a 34-unit apartment complex in Normal Heights.
The total development cost was more than $6,663,000 and is financed by the San Diego Housing Commission; Multi-Family Housing Program; California Mental Health Services Administration; Housing Opportunities for People with AIDS, a program under the U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development; as well as SHP Capital. The four-building complex has 20 one-bedroom and 14-two bedroom units to accomodate both individuals and families with children. On-site management and supportive services including a resident food pantry are planned.
This new facility will undergo rehab construction over the next few months and is expected to be available for full occupancy by August 2010. |
" A Good Day"
"This is a good day and an important step forward for San Diego," said Jon P. Derryberry, Executive Director. "Everyone needs a place to call home and it is especially important for people living with special needs like HIV/AIDS to be able to live more stable, healthy lives. Our affordable housing, combined with our supportive services, keeps people stable and thriving, not just surviving." |
