About Townspeople

Townspeople is a San Diego-based nonprofit organization dedicated to ending homelessness and improving community health by providing housing and services. Since 1984, Townspeople has worked to connect individuals and families to safe, stable housing and the supports they need to thrive. Founded in response to the HIV/AIDS crisis, the organization has grown into a leader in housing solutions that improve health outcomes, strengthen communities, and create pathways to long-term stability.

We believe that housing is healthcare. Stable housing provides the foundation people need to manage chronic health conditions, maintain employment, strengthen relationships, and participate fully in community life. Our work is rooted in the understanding that housing stability and health are deeply interconnected.

Today, Townspeople develops, owns, and operates affordable and permanent supportive housing; provides housing navigation and stabilization services; advances innovative shared housing solutions; and partners with healthcare providers, public agencies, and community organizations to improve housing access throughout San Diego County. Through direct services, strategic partnerships, and systems-level leadership, Townspeople works to expand housing opportunities, improve housing stability, and build a future where everyone has access to a safe, affordable place to call home.
